Sarah Josepha Hale



Hale, Sarah Josepha (1788–1879), U.S. feminist journalist, editor of Ladies' Magazine (1828–37) and Godey's Lady's Book (from 1837). She championed higher education for women and was the author of the nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb” (1830).
