Haleakala National Park



Haleakala National Park, park on the island of Maui, in Hawaii, encompassing the dormant volcano Mt. Haleakala, which last erupted in 1790, and surrounding rain forests and coastal cliffs. It became a separate national park in 1961, having been part of Hawaii National Park since 1916. It is over 28,000 acres (11,000 hectares) in area.
