Philip Glass



Glass, Philip (1937– ), U.S. composer. He was strongly influenced by rock, African and, through his studies with Ravi Shankar, Indian music. He composed music in a style called minimalism and he played combinations of classical Western, rock, and African and Indian music on his electronic keyboards. His best known operas are Einstein on the Beach (1976) and Satyagraha (1980).
