Stan(ley) Getz



Getz, Stan(ley) (1927–91), U.S. jazz musician. He played the saxophone under bandleaders Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, and Woody Herman, before forming his own smaller groups. Influenced by jazz saxophonists Lester Young and Charlie Parker, during the 1950s Getz evolved his distinctive, intimate and reflective, “cool” jazz style.
