Gerbil

Gerbil, or sand rat, small rodent of the family Cricetidae found in desert or semidesert regions of Africa and Asia. It has fine, dense fur and a long tail and can move fast by hopping. Gerbils live in burrows and eat seeds, flowers, and roots. As they are easy to keep, needing little water and simple food, they are popular as laboratory animals and as pets.
