Stefan George



George, Stefan (1868–1933), German poet. His symbolist and formally rigorous poems appeared in such volumes as Algabal (1892), The Soul's Year (1897), and The New Kingdom (1928). He was leader of a circle of intellectuals who shared his belief that art should shun the everyday and his devotion to German language and culture.
