Geneva



Geneva (pop. 169,500), city and capital of Geneva canton, Switzerland, on Lake Geneva at the Rhône River outlet. It is the headquarters of the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, and the International Red Cross. It is an important cultural, scientific, theological, industrial, and banking city and the center of the Swiss watchmaking industry. The College de Genève was founded (1559) by John Calvin.
