General Services Administration (GSA), independent U.S. federal agency established in 1949 to maintain government property and records. Its 5 branches deal with quality-controlled supplies for government use, emergency stockpiles of strategic materials, erection and management of public buildings, transportation and telecommunications, and the preserving of historical records and archives.
