Amin Gemayel



Gemayel, Amin (1942– ), president of Lebanon (1982–88), elected after the assassination of his brother, president-elect Bashir Gemayel. He worked to suppress factional strife between his Christian Phalange party and Druze, Palestinian, and Lebanese Muslims and to secure the withdrawal of Syrian and Israeli forces from the country.
