Gasoline, liquid fuel, a mixture of hydrocarbons produced by refining petroleum. It is known as petrol in Britain and various other countries. Used to power engines in cars, trucks, airplanes, and motorboats, it is an important transportation fuel. It is also used as a cooking fuel.
