Garter snake



Garter snake, any of the harmless snakes of the genus Thamnophis. Garter snakes are the most common snakes of North America, growing to a length of 20–30 in (50–70 cm) and feeding on frogs or salamanders. Some are aquatic or semiaquatic and kept as pets.
