John Kenneth Galbraith



Galbraith, John Kenneth (1908– ), Canadian-born U.S. economist and author, ambassador to India 1961–63. A Harvard professor (1949–75) and an activist in the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. Galbraith has been a consistent advocate of Keynesian economics, supporting active state intervention into the economy and urging government efforts to fight poverty and unemployment. His major books include The New Industrial State (1967; rev. ed. 1978), Money (1975), and The Age of Uncertainty (1977), and Affluent Society (1958; rev. ed. 1985).
