Thomas Gage



Gage, Thomas (1721–87), British general, from 1763 commander-in-chief of British forces in North America and governor of Massachusetts (1774–75). His attempt to take an arms depot at Concord resulted in the first battles of the Revolutionary War. He resigned after the disaster at Bunker Hill.
