Saint Francis de Sales



Francis de Sales, Saint (1567–1622), French nobleman, Roman Catholic bishop of Geneva-Annecy from 1603. Author of popular works such as Introduction to the Devout Life (1608), he was respected even by the Calvinists for his good nature and humility. He helped found the Order of the Visitation (1610). He was canonized in 1665. His feast day is Jan. 29.
