Fort Smith



Fort Smith (pop. 175,911), city in Arkansas, originally established as a U.S. Army installation (1817). A manufacturing and transportation center, the Fort Smith area is also important for natural gas and coal deposits, farming, and timber. The courtroom of frontier “hanging judge” Isaac C. Parker is located in downtown Fort Smith.
