Theodor Fontane



Fontane, Theodor (1819–98), German author known for his novels about Prussian society. Most of Fontane's stories involve Berlin's upper class in the 1800s, their social lives, morals, and personal conflicts. Fontane's works include Trials and Tribulations (1888), Jenny Treibel (1892), and his masterpiece, Effi Briest (1895).
