Flagstaff



Flagstaff (pop. 34,743), city in northern Arizona near the San Francisco Mountains. Although the city's chief industry is lumbering, tourism has become increasingly important. Flagstaff is noted for its proximity to Native American ruins, the Grand Canyon National Park, and skiing facilities. It is also the site of the Lowell Observatory, from which the planet Pluto was first observed.
