Fir

Fir, common name for various evergreen members of the pine family, including 9 true firs (genus Abies) native to the United States. The fragrant balsam fir (A. balsainea) is a popular Christmas tree. The Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), valued for its timber, is not a true fir.
