Filbert



Filbert, any of various trees and shrubs of (genus Corylus) belonging to the birch family. The plant may grow 60 ft (18 m) tall. Native to the north temperate zone, filberts thrive in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and in southern Europe. Filberts (particularly C. avellana) are cultivated for their edible nuts (called filberts, hazelnuts, or cobnuts).
