Fetish, inanimate object, such as a stone or a tree, worshipped for its magical powers. A fetish is often thought to be inhabited by a spirit. In psychiatry, a sexual fetish is not in itself erotic but it may be stimulating to certain people—a foot or a shoe, for example.
