James Leonard Farmer



Farmer, James Leonard (1920– ), U.S. civil rights leader. He founded the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), serving as head 1942–66, utilizing nonviolent techniques of protest. He was assistant Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare 1969–70.
