Emin Pasha



Emin Pasha (Eduard Schnitzer; 1840–92), physician and explorer. Emin Pasha became a surgeon in the Turkish and Sudan armies. He was appointed governor of a Sudan province in 1873, and in 1887 he was created a pasha by Egypt. He was rescued from a Mahdi uprising in 1889 but was murdered by Arab slave traders while engaging in explorations for the German East Africa Company.
