Embryology



Embryology, study of the development of embryos of animals and humans, based on anatomical specimens of embryos at different periods of gestation, obtained from animals or from human abortion. Embryology aids in the study of anatomy and of the development of organ systems and the origins of congenital defects. It may reveal the basis for the separate development of identical cells and for control of growth.
