Elisha



Elisha (9th century B.C.), Hebrew prophet, disciple of and successor to Elijah, whose life is described in II Kings of the Old Testament. Like Elijah, he acted as the conscience of the Hebrew king. He engineered the downfall of the dynasty of Omri and the rise of the house of Jehu. He was reputedly gifted as a soothsayer and healer.
