Electron tube

Electron tube, device used for amplifying electrical signals or currents. It consists of electrodes sealed in a glass tube that may contain a vacuum, but usually includes traces of gas. Once widely used in radio, television, and computers, electron tubes have been largely replaced by the transistor.
