Electric generator



Electric generator, or dynamo, machine producing electricity most often by converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. They are used for factory machines, lighting, and home appliances. They can be either direct current (DC), producing electric current flowing in one direction, or alternating current (AC), producing electric current that reverses direction periodically. Some scientific instruments use midget generators while larger generators can supply electricity for entire cities.
