Electra



Electra, in Greek mythology, daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and the older sister of Orestes. To avenge the murder of Agamemnon, she helped Orestes slay the murderers, Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus. This theme was the subject of tragedies by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, as well as by Eugene O'Neill in his trilogy Mourning Becomes Electra (1931), and by composer Richard Strauss in his opera Elektra (1909).
