Eleanor of Aquitaine

Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122–1204), daughter and heir of William X, duke of Aquitaine; queen consort first to Louis VII of trance (marriage annulled 1152) and then to Henry II of England. Her marriage to Henry in 1152 brought almost all of western France under English domination. In 1173 she supported her sons (later kings Richard I and John) in unsuccessful rebellion against their adulterous father and was afterward kept in captivity until Henry's death in 1185. She was subsequently active in politics in support of her sons.
