Michael Stanley Dukakis

Dukakis, Michael Stanley (1933– ), U.S. politician, unsuccessful Democratic candidate for president in the 1988 election. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1963–70) and was elected governor of Massachusetts in 1974. After losing his bid for reelection in 1978, he regained the post in the election of 1982. He declined to run for reelection in 1990.
