Sanford Ballard Dole



Dole, Sanford Ballard (1844–1926), U.S. judge and leader of the Republic of Hawaii. In 1893, he led the movement that overthrew Queen Liliuokalani and resulted in the establishment of the Hawaiian republic, of which Dole became president (1894–1900). After the United States annexed Hawaii (1898), he served as territorial governor (1900–3).
