Dnepropetrovsk



Dnepropetrovsk (pop. c. 1,200,000), city in Ukraine, on the Dnepr River. It is a major center of rail and water-transport and a leading producer of iron, steel, and chemicals. Founded in 1787 as Ekaterinoslav, the city took its present name in 1926.
