Djibouti

Djibouti (pop. 317,000), capital of the Republic of Djibouti. A port city located on the Gulf of Aden, it is the country's only economic center. Founded by the French in 1888 and developed as a colonial capital, the city has since grown rapidly and is now plagued by poverty and inadequate housing.
