Divining rod

Divining rod, forked stick used by diviners, or dowsers, to find buried objects or water. Diviners believe that if they hold the forked end of the rod and pass over an area where water is located, the pointed end will be attracted to the water and pull downward. Diviners often officially refer to their skill as rhabdomancy. Although dowsers have claimed remarkable success on many occasions, tests and experiments have not been able to demonstrate more than a chance relationship to results.
