Emily Dickinson

Dickinson, Emily (1830–86), U.S. poet. She spent most of her life secluded in her father's home in Amherst, Mass. Her concise lyrics, witty and aphoristic in style, simple in expression, and notable for metrical variations, are chiefly concerned with immortality and nature. Of 1,775 poems, only 7 were published during her lifetime.
