Vittorio De Sica



De Sica, Vittorio (1901–74), Italian film director. His earlier films, such as Shoeshine (1946) and The Bicycle Thief (1948), are noted for their compassionate treatment of social problems in the neorealist style. Later films, made in more commercially viable style, include Marriage, Italian Style (1964) and The Garden of the Finzi Continis (1971).
