Delaware Bay

Delaware Bay, inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, bounded by New Jersey on the north and Delaware on the south and west. It is approximately 50 mi (80 km) long and varies in width from about 4 mi (6 km) to 30 mi (48 km); it ranges from 30 to 60 ft (9 to 18 m) in depth. The ocean entrance into the bay is formed by a channel 12 mi (19 km) wide, bordered by Cape May and Cape Henlopen, leading to the Delaware River. Its major port, Lewes, is located on Cape Henlopen. The inlet also forms the inland waterway to Wilmington and Philadelphia.
