Miguel De la Madrid Hurtado



De la Madrid Hurtado, Miguel (1934– ), Mexican political leader. He was budget minister (1976–82) under President José López Portillo, whom de la Madrid succeeded as president in 1982. His technocratic administration, which held power until 1988, faced grave economic problems, including a huge foreign debt. He was a leader in Latin American efforts to end the strife in neighboring Central American countries.
