Stephen Decatur



Decatur, Stephen (1779–1820), U.S. naval hero. He was responsible for many victories in the Barbary Wars (1804) and later in the War of 1812, when he commanded the United States. He served as a U.S. navy commissioner until his death in a duel. He is famous for saying: “Our country, right or wrong.”
