Decatur



Decatur (pop. 117,206), city in central Illinois located on the Sangamon River and named after the U.S. naval officer Stephen Decatur. A principal railroad junction, Decatur is the trading center for the region's farm products and livestock. It was the city where the young Abraham Lincoln made his first home in Illinois.
