Date palm



Date palm, date-producing tree (Phoenix dactylifera) of hot, dry climates. The many products of the date palm include: food and beverages, timber, materials for baskets and other artifacts, rope, fuel, animal feed, and packing material. In some areas the date palm is also grown as an ornamental tree, and it plays a role in religious ceremonies of Muslims, Christians, and Jews.
