Da Nang

Da Nang, or Tourane (pop.490,000) large port city in southern Vietnam on the South China Sea. Its accessible harbor and its location near North Vietnam made it a key city during the Vietnam War. After 1965, the United States built a major air base there. The city has a modern textile mill and also produces soap.
