Dana, Richard Henry, Jr. (1815–82), U.S. lawyer, social reformer, and author of Two Years Before the Mast (1840). Written after he had sailed from the east coast to California, around Cape Horn, it exposed the harsh treatment of sailors and started a reform campaign.
