Cyanosis

Cyanosis, bluish discoloration of skin and mucous membranes. Central cyanosis results from a lack of oxygen in the blood flowing in the arteries from the lungs. Peripheral cyanosis occurs when there is insufficient oxygen in the haemoglobin of the venous blood, as a result of extensive oxygen extraction at the level of the capillaries.
