Mario Matthew Cuomo



Cuomo, Mario Matthew (1932–), U.S. politician. He was admitted to the New York bar in 1956; a Democrat, he served as New York's secretary of state (1975–79) and as lieutenant governor (1979–83) before being elected governor of New York in 1982. He is the first Italian-American to hold this office. He was considered a serious presidential candidate for the 1990s.
