Cruiser



Cruiser, warship designed for speed and long-range attack, in size between the destroyer and aircraft carrier. Used as a small battleship in World War II, its function has been to maintain lines of sea communication and to defend carriers against air attack. The first cruiser with nuclear power, the USS Long Beach, was launched in 1959.
