Cross-country

Cross-country, long-distance running sport. Cross-country is not confined to a track, but instead uses a mapped-out course over a variety of terrains. High school and collegiate courses may range from 1.5 to 7 mi (2.4 to 11 km), and teams generally consist of 6 to 9 members. Points are assigned to the place runners finish in the race, and the team with the lowest point total is the winner.
