Benedetto Croce



Croce, Benedetto (1866–1952), Italian philosopher and writer. A leading exponent of the modern Idealist school, Croce was the founder and editor of La Critica, a scholarly journal devoted to literature, history, and philosophy. Between 1902 and 1917, he produced his best-known work, Philosophy of the Spirit. Espousing liberal and intellectual causes, he opposed Mussolini and his Fascist government.
