Crewel



Crewel, type of woolen yarn as well as a form of embroidery crafted from the yarn. The yarn consists of twin threads twisted together. Most crewelwork is done from patterns stitched on a plain cloth background. As an art form, crewel dates back to the ancient Hebrews and was popular during the Middle Ages.
