Anacreon



Anacreon (572–485? B.C.), Greek lyric poet who celebrated wine and love in mellow, simple verses. These were copied in the so-called Anacreontics, fashionable in the Hellenistic Age and again in 18th-century Europe. His main patrons were the tyrants of Samos and Athens.
