Allies

Allies, during World War I, nations bound together in opposition to the Central Powers. The Allies included the members of the Triple Entente, as well as Serbia, Belgium, Japan, Italy, and, as an “associated power,” the United States. During World War II “Allies” was the popular term for some 25 nations that opposed the Axis powers. The major nations among the Allies were the United States, Britain, Russia, China, and later, the Free French. These 5 became the permanent members of the UN Security Council, established in 1945.
